After, we’ll navigate Miraflores for a view of the Huaca Pucllana Pyramid, the ceremonial center of the Lima culture. Traversing San Isidro, you’ll glimpse the city’s principal landmarks: a replica of the Government Palace, foreign embassies, the historic Park of the Exposition, the Lima Museum of Art, and significant monuments and squares like San Martín Plaza. Entering the Historic Center via Jirón Conde de Superunda, we’ll follow a path laid by Francisco Pizarro in 1535 and admire the Colonial House of Osambela, notable for its grand façade and exquisite balconies. The tour winds down with an exploration of the magnificent Basilica and Convent of Santo Domingo the oldest university in the Americas. Then we’ll visit the Lima Cathedral. Entrance fee to Lima Cathedral and Santo Domingo Convent are included in this tour.

After breakfast, we will be transferred to the airport for our flight to Cusco (flight not included in tour rate). Upon arrival at the airport, a representative will meet and transfer us to the hotel.

The rest of this day in Cusco is at your leisure. Please note that the city of Cusco sits at an altitude of over 11,000 feet, so taking it easy on your first day may help prevent the symptoms of altitude sickness. But, if you’re feeling up to it, take an optional excursion this afternoon.

And this evening you can optionally take a private food tour of Cusco with a local and sample local specialties that you might otherwise miss out on. Taking this as a private tour for our group members means that you can tailor the foods you sample to your dietary requirements and preferences. Plus exploring with a local guide helps you to overcome the language barrier.

Begin your fourth day with a light breakfast at the hotel before taking an exclusive luxury train ride on the Hiram Bingham Train through the sacred valley of Urubamba to the “Lost City of the Incas”, Machu Picchu. Journeying from historic Cusco through the Sacred Valley and up to the entrance of Machu Picchu, the Hiram Bingham is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure with breathtaking, open-air views. Or if open air is not your style, head to the observation car to listen to live music while the amazing views whirl by. Then, take your assigned seat and feast upon exquisite Peruvian cuisine for brunch.

Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, you will store your bags at the station and proceed by exclusive bus to Machu Picchu. Because of its small size, our group will maneuver nimbly through the ruins, giving us the luxury of absorbing this remarkable UNESCO World Heritage site at our leisure. At the citadel, enjoy professional guide services on one of the main circuits and be awed by the majestic ruins before heading to Sanctuary Lodge, in the mountains for a rest break and a beverage. Then we’ll head back by bus to Aguas Calientes to retrieve our luggage and settle in at El Mapi Hotel.
