Vancouver & Alaska Learning Escape

One remarkable journey. Three very different ways to experience the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.

VancouverInside PassageSitkaIcy Strait PointJuneauHubbard GlacierSewardAnchorageDenali

We begin in Vancouver, where food, culture, gardens and dramatic coastal scenery introduce us to the Pacific Northwest. Then we board the Celebrity Solstice and travel north through Alaska’s Inside Passage, combining days at sea with thoughtfully selected experiences ashore. When the cruise ends in Seward, we aren’t finished. We’ll continue overland into Alaska’s interior, traveling by road and rail to Anchorage and Denali National Park.

Throughout the journey, we’ve balanced shared experiences with time to follow your own curiosity. That’s what a Learning Escape is all about: seeing extraordinary places, but also slowing down long enough to understand a little more about them.

Day 1Monday, July 26

Welcome to Vancouver

Welcome to Vancouver! After arriving, settle into our home for the next four nights, the Georgian Court Hotel, a boutique hotel conveniently located in downtown Vancouver.

Today is deliberately easy. Unpack, explore the neighborhood, find a good meal, or simply relax after your journey. Tomorrow we’ll begin discovering the city together.

Day 2Tuesday, July 27

Vancouver Your Way & The Flavors of Gastown

The morning and early afternoon are yours to experience Vancouver your way.

Choose from three optional experiences: a small-group Vancouver sightseeing tour, a guided bicycle tour, or—if you’re age 16 or older—an e-bike adventure. Prefer to explore independently? Sleep in, linger over breakfast, visit a museum, shop, wander the waterfront or simply follow your curiosity.

Later in the afternoon, we’ll come back together for our first included group experience.

An Evening in Gastown

At 5:00 PM, we’ll discover Vancouver through its flavors on a curated evening food tour through historic Gastown.

We’ll enjoy panoramic city views, appetizers and drinks before taking to Gastown’s atmospheric streets. Along the way, our guide will introduce us to the history, people and cultures that helped shape Vancouver while we taste our way through the neighborhood.

Expect generous tastings, engaging storytelling and plenty of conversation. It’s history, culture and dinner rolled into one—and a delicious way to begin our Learning Escape together.

Day 3Wednesday, July 28

Victoria, Butchart Gardens & A Seaplane Home

Today we’re off to Vancouver Island for one of our biggest days of exploration.

We’ll travel by ferry to Victoria, enjoying the coastal scenery along the way, before exploring British Columbia’s capital with our private guide. Our day includes Victoria’s picturesque Inner Harbour, the Parliament Buildings, the historic Fairmont Empress and some of the area’s beautiful coastal scenery.

Then we’ll visit magnificent Butchart Gardens, where we’ll have time to wander through acres of meticulously designed gardens.

But we’re not taking the ferry back.

We’ll head to Victoria’s Inner Harbour and board a seaplane (subject to availability) for the return flight to Vancouver. From the air, we’ll watch the islands and waterways of the Strait of Georgia unfold beneath us before descending into Vancouver’s Coal Harbour.

Ferry in. Seaplane home. That’s a pretty good Wednesday.

Day 4Thursday, July 29

Mountains, Waterfalls & Jazz

Today we trade city streets for mountains.

We’ll follow the spectacular Sea-to-Sky corridor, stopping at Shannon Falls before continuing to the Sea to Sky Gondola. The gondola carries us high above Howe Sound, where mountain views, viewing platforms and the Sky Pilot Suspension Bridge await.

We’ll continue through some of the area’s beautiful coastal landscapes before returning to Vancouver.

Tonight, we’re joined by travelers beginning the cruise portion of our journey, and we’ll welcome them properly—with dinner and music.

Welcome Dinner & Live Jazz at Frankie’s

We’ll gather at Frankie’s Italian Kitchen for a relaxed group dinner and a chance for everyone to get acquainted. Afterward, we’ll settle in next door at Frankie’s Jazz Club for an evening of live music.

For those of us who have already spent several days together, it’s a chance to share stories. For our newly arriving travelers, it’s the beginning of the adventure.

Tomorrow, we sail for Alaska.

Day 5Friday, July 30

All Aboard — Vancouver to Alaska

After breakfast and a relaxed morning, our private transfer takes us from the Georgian Court Hotel to the cruise terminal, where we’ll board Celebrity Solstice for our seven-night northbound Alaska journey.

Settle into your stateroom, explore the ship and find your favorite viewing spot as Vancouver begins to slip away behind us.

We’re officially Alaska-bound.

Day 6Saturday, July 31

The Inside Passage — Let the Scenery Come to You

Today there is nowhere we need to be.

We’ll spend the day cruising north through the Inside Passage, a landscape of forested islands, narrow waterways, mountains and remote coastline.

Take your coffee outside. Find a window seat. Attend a shipboard program. Enjoy a long lunch. Or simply watch Alaska begin to reveal itself.

This is one of those wonderful travel days when the journey itself is the destination.

Day 7Sunday, August 1

Sitka — Bears, Raptors, Totems & Stories

Sitka welcomes us with an included small-group land experience that introduces the natural and cultural character of this distinctive Alaskan community.

We’ll explore the coastline and some of Sitka’s notable landmarks, with opportunities to encounter rescued Alaska wildlife, learn about the region’s birds of prey and walk among the towering trees and totems that help tell the story of Southeast Alaska.

It’s exactly the kind of day a Learning Escape is designed for: wildlife, history, culture and place woven together rather than experienced separately.

Day 8Monday, August 2

Endicott Arm — A Day Shaped by Ice

Scenery takes on an entirely different scale as Celebrity Solstice cruises through Endicott Arm.

Glacial waters, steep mountains and waterfalls create a landscape best experienced slowly—from the deck, a lounge or your own veranda.

Keep your binoculars and camera nearby, but don’t forget to occasionally put both down. Some landscapes are better remembered than photographed.

Day 9Tuesday, August 3

Icy Strait Point & Hoonah — Alaska Through Local Eyes

In Hoonah and Icy Strait Point, we’ll explore the surrounding area with a local operator whose team lives in the community.

Rather than simply checking off attractions, we’ll get out into the surrounding area to look for wildlife, see the harbor and experience the landscapes and community that make this part of Alaska special.

This is one of our intentionally small-scale shore days—an opportunity to experience Alaska with people who call it home.

Day 10Wednesday, August 4

Juneau — Choose Your Own Adventure

Welcome to Alaska’s capital.

Today is yours to explore Juneau independently—or take the day’s adventure level considerably higher.

Optional: Helicopter Flightseeing & Glacier Dog Sledding

For travelers looking for a true bucket-list experience, an optional helicopter and dog-sledding excursion takes you high above Juneau’s extraordinary glacial landscape before landing on a glacier.

There, meet an Alaskan sled-dog team and experience one of the state’s most enduring traditions in an environment few travelers ever get to visit.

Availability for this excursion is very limited, and it is likely to sell out fast. We recommend reserving early.

Prefer to stay earthbound? Spend your day discovering Juneau at your own pace.

Day 11Thursday, August 5

Hubbard Glacier — Alaska’s Grand Finale at Sea

This morning we’ll cruise toward Hubbard Glacier, one of the great scenic moments of our voyage.

Bundle up, grab a warm drink and head outside. This is not a morning to sleep through.

We’ll watch for the shifting blues and whites of glacial ice and listen for the unmistakable sounds of an active glacier. Weather and ice always determine how close a ship can approach, which is part of the experience: out here, nature still makes the rules.

Tonight is our final evening aboard Celebrity Solstice. Tomorrow we reach Seward—but our Alaska adventure is only changing form.

Day 12Friday, August 6

Seward to Anchorage — The Road Becomes the Adventure

We’ll disembark in Seward, but we won’t simply climb aboard a vehicle and race to Anchorage.

Our journey north becomes another Alaska experience, with a guided tour and transfer that allows us to enjoy the landscapes between Seward and Anchorage along the way.

By evening we’ll arrive in Anchorage and settle into the Sheraton Anchorage, our home for the next two nights.

Sea Alaska has ended. Interior Alaska begins.

Day 13Saturday, August 7

Anchorage — A Day to Follow Your Curiosity

After nearly two weeks of shared adventures, today belongs to you.

Sleep a little later. Explore Anchorage’s museums and galleries. Walk part of the coastal trail. Shop for Alaska Native art. Find a great local restaurant. Or do absolutely nothing ambitious at all.

Learning Escapes include structured experiences—but they also leave room to wander.

Day 14Sunday, August 8

All Aboard the Denali Star

This morning we’ll transfer to the Alaska Railroad station and board the Denali Star for one of the classic rail journeys of the north.

Rather than simply driving to Denali, we’ll watch Alaska unfold outside our windows as the train travels from Anchorage through Southcentral Alaska toward the Interior.

The journey is part transportation, part sightseeing experience and part permission to simply sit back and watch.

GoldStar Service

We’ll travel in the Alaska Railroad’s GoldStar Dome service, the most refined way to ride the Denali Star. Your reserved seat is on the upper level of a double-decker dome car, beneath full-length glass windows that open up 360-degree views of forests, rivers and, with luck, Denali itself.

Downstairs, a sit-down dining room serves regional cuisine, with meals and drinks included in your fare. A dedicated host narrates the route, and an outdoor viewing platform reserved for GoldStar guests lets you step outside for fresh air and photographs.

The scenery is spectacular. The seat is pretty good, too.

By late afternoon we’ll arrive in Denali and transfer to the Grande Denali Lodge, our home for the next three nights.

Tonight, take a look around and appreciate where you are.

We made it to Denali.

Day 15Monday, August 9

Denali National Park — Nature, Culture & History

Today we’ll venture into Denali National Park and Preserve on the Denali Natural History Tour.

With a driver-naturalist helping us interpret what we’re seeing, we’ll explore the park’s landscape, geology and history through a combination of narrated travel and interpretive stops.

We’ll learn about the creation of the Denali Park Road, visit historic Savage Cabin and experience an Alaska Native presentation at Primrose Ridge exploring people’s relationship with this land across thousands of years.

Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed—and that’s precisely the point. This isn’t a zoo. We’ll be visitors in an enormous living landscape, watching carefully to see what Denali chooses to show us today.

Day 16Tuesday, August 10

Denali — Your Day in the Wilderness

Today is intentionally unscheduled.

After so many miles and experiences, you get to decide what your final full day in Alaska should look like.

Choose another adventure, explore the Denali area, take a walk, browse local shops, enjoy the lodge, sit somewhere beautiful with a book—or simply spend some time absorbing the scale and stillness of the place.

Sometimes the most memorable travel experience is the one nobody scheduled for you.

Tonight, we’ll enjoy our final evening in Denali and our last night together in Alaska.

Day 17Wednesday, August 11

One Last Alaska Road Trip — Denali to Anchorage

We’re going home—but Alaska gets one more day.

After checking out of the Grande Denali Lodge, we’ll begin our private scenic journey south toward Anchorage. Rather than treating the trip as a simple airport transfer, we’ll make the road part of our final experience, with stops planned along the Parks Highway.

We’ll pause for mountain views, spend time in Talkeetna for lunch and a stroll through this wonderfully individual little Alaska town, and continue south toward Anchorage.

Just before the city, we’ll make a quick stop at Eklutna Village Historical Park for a glimpse of the Dena’ina Athabascan community and the traditions that continue there today.

Eventually we’ll arrive at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, where our Learning Escape comes to an end.

We will have traveled by car, ferry, seaplane, cruise ship, train and—if you choose the optional Juneau adventure—even helicopter and dog sled. We’ll have experienced cities and tiny communities, gardens and glaciers, jazz and wildlife, the Pacific coast and Alaska’s vast interior.

But hopefully what we’ll remember most isn’t simply how much we saw.

It’s that we experienced it together.
